Modern Slavery Statement
Introduction
This statement is made in compliance with Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps Modern Tyres Ltd is taking to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking do not take place in any part of our business or supply chains. Modern Tyres is committed to maintaining high ethical standards and respecting human rights. We understand our moral and legal responsibilities in combating forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of slavery and remain dedicated to continuously reviewing and improving our practices.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Modern Tyres was established in 1965 and has grown into the largest independent tyre retail and wholesale company in Ireland, with over forty retail depots across the North and South of Ireland. We source a wide range of tyres both from suppliers in the UK and internationally, with direct partnerships with major tyre manufacturers. Our operations cover wholesale tyre distribution to retail fast-fit centres.
In our supply chain, we work with a diverse range of suppliers, which include international manufacturers and logistics partners. We are committed to ensuring all parts of our business and supply chain operate in a way that respects human rights.
Policies on Slavery and Human Trafficking
We have a zero-tolerance policy on slavery and human trafficking, which is embedded within our corporate culture and operations. All employees and business partners are expected to abide by this policy, and we expect the same from our suppliers and contractors.
Modern Tyres operates a zero-tolerance policy on slavery and human trafficking. As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk, we expect our delivery partners, those within our supply chain, and all companies we engage with to ensure their products and labour-related supply chains are free from any ethical uncertainties.
Modern Tyres will take disciplinary action against any employee found to be involved in forced labour, slavery and human trafficking.
Due Diligence Process
Modern Tyres is committed to identifying and addressing any potential risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. Our due diligence process includes:
- A comprehensive review of new suppliers, including the request for their Modern Slavery Act statements.
- Regular audits and assessments of supply chain practices.
- Ensuring that all our employees are paid at least the relevant minimum or living wage. We check applicants’ eligibility to work in the UK/Ireland before commencing employment.
- Encouraging employees to report any concerns they may have regarding slavery or human trafficking in the workplace, with a guaranteed confidential reporting process.
Risk Assessment and Management
We recognise that risks of modern slavery and human trafficking may be higher in certain parts of our supply chain, particularly in the sourcing of raw materials such as natural rubber and in international manufacturing operations. Additionally, contract and temporary labour in logistics and distribution can present vulnerabilities. We actively assess these areas and work with suppliers to ensure compliance with ethical labour standards.
As part of our commitment to preventing such practices, we endeavour to:
- Identify and assess potential risk areas in our supply chains;
- Monitor potential risk areas in our supply chains;
Should risks be identified, it is company policy to take immediate and collaborative action with our suppliers to address the issue. Our approach focuses on ensuring sustainable, ethical practices and fostering long-term partnerships that prioritises human rights and fair working conditions.
By taking these steps, we aim to reduce the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking throughout our operations and supply chains.
Effectiveness and Performance Indicators
We measure the effectiveness of our actions to combat slavery and human trafficking by tracking key performance indicators, including:
- Completion rate of supplier audits.
- The number of supplier agreements signed, including their Modern Slavery policy statements.
We continue to refine our processes to ensure we are preventing modern slavery in all aspects of our business.
Training and Capacity Building
All employees are made aware of the company Modern Slavery policy.
We intend in to provide e-training/toolbox talk on modern slavery to all employees, which includes recognising the signs of forced labour and understanding how to report concerns.
Once implemented, we would expect the training to be completed annually.
