Modern Tyres Renews Sponsorship with Alastair Fisher

Enniskillen based Modern Tyres, with 40 branches throughout Ireland, has renewed its sponsorship of one of the country’s most promising rally drivers, Alastair Fisher. The name Fisher is synonymous with rallying and Alastair has been making a name for himself on the world rally stage. This year, Alastair is back competing with the world’s fastest young guns in the Junior WRC and already has proven what a talent he is. Against 15 other drivers in identical Citroen DS3s, Alastair, along with co-driver Gordon Noble, built up a lead of one and a half minutes on Rally Portugal only to be caught out on the rough rock strewn gravel stages with the Citroen sliding off the road and out of the rally. This was the fourth time Alastair competed in Portugal, having previously won the event in 2012 in a Ford Fiesta.

The Modern Tyres Citroen DS3 will soon be heading off to the next round of the series that shadows the World Rally Championship to Rally Poland. This will be a first for the Trillick driver who has never competed on the fast sandy stages around Warsaw before and the event also includes stages in Lithuania. After Poland, the Modern Tyre Services backed team will travel to the fast tarmac rounds in the Mosel vineyards for Rally Germany, before heading for the ultra fast forest roads of Finland. It will be back onto tarmac for Rally France with the Junior WRC championship finishing in November in the Welsh forests of Rally GB.

The new look and branding on Alastair’s rally car is just one of the many new initiatives to come from Modern Tyres, explained Group Marketing Manager Stephen Shaw. “ We are delighted to again be sponsoring Alastair Fisher in the 2014 Junior World Rally Championship,” said Stephen, “and with new branding, new look and new offers coming from Modern Tyrs this year, the company, along with Alastair, are going to be leading from the front.
