Is Your TPMS Light On?

The purpose of your TPMS light is to alert you to a drop in tyre pressure which could create unsafe driving conditions. So what to do when it comes on?

There are a few reasons that may cause your TPMS light to come on and when it does, you need to get it checked.

Common causes are cold weather, faulty sensors, punctures and time.

During the cold weather months, the low temperatures will cause your tyres lo lose pressure. This may seem like a fairly harmless reason however, if unchecked, will lead to unsafe handling and driving conditions.

When it comes to a faulty sensor, don’t ignore it as the fault could be masking the more serious issue like a loss of pressure.  

And when it comes to punctures, you may have no choice but to call into our nearest Modern Tyres or in more serious cases have someone come to you. However, slow punctures are less evident and can have more serious consequences where the tyre integrity is compromised and could suffer a blowout while driving.

 

It is inevitable that your tyre will lose pressure over time and cause your TPMS light to come on. It is highly recommended that you top up your tyre pressure once a month but at the same time don’t wait for the light to come on before you do as driving with under inflated tyres in any case is unsafe and could lead to unsafe handling without you knowing.
